Sony Handycam DCR-DVD92 DVD Camcorder problems.?

I have a Sony Handycam DCR-DVD92 DVD Camcorder, I've had it for a few years now and still haven't figured out how to edit the videos on my PC. I can finalize the disc and then move all the information onto my PC, but it seems my PC turns it into a PowerDvD File, and when it turns it into that file I can't take it and put it in any editing programs (I use Windows Movie Maker) to edit anything on the films. Anyone have any suggestions on how to change the video type once it gets to my PC or any programs that might help edit?
Do not copy the DVD contents to your computer. Hopefully, your computer has a drawer loading DVD drive. Rip the DVD using HandBrake - or any other DVD ripper and save the converted file as something MovieMaker can deal with - like .wmv or .avi. Then the converted file can be used by MovieMaker.
