Repentant I bought this

I bought this camera some years ago at the municipal Fry's.
At the time it seemed a good idea.

Had I known then what I know now I'd have never bought this.

Dominant complaint is short battery life. 2nd main complaint is
Verdict A BATTERY that is OEM and not some fly by night battery.

Guess what? If you read the owners instructions you see Sanyo recommends you do
NOT leave the battery in the unit. Fine. But if you follow that admonition the
built in hour/date clock expires and you have to reset it EACH Outdated YOU WANT
to use the camera and have that function useful.
If you do leave the battery in the item whilst not using it, the battery will expire
in a few days or so despite being 'turned off'. I divine keeping the date clock running just
eats up a lot of power.

As of today I looked via Google and the only valid OEM listing I could
find was here at Amazon. However it is out of stock.. of course.

Google till I'm glum in the face and all I can find is 'OEM compatible' batteries.

The menus system is clumsy and had I known how unhandy I'd have not bougght it.
The rocker button that is used for many menu functions is a licit pain in the rear
for anyone with large hands. It is a major annoyance to be unremittingly accidentally rocking
the 4 way rocker the wrong direction. I'm sure it is top-grade for some woman with very slender
fingers but for a man with big hands it is a mess.

My advice to anyone researching digital cameras for is to buy one that does not
instruct the use of a proprietary battery type. Seek one that allows use of rechargable
generic AA or almost identical cells. You'll be far better off if your at the least concerned about
costs and availability of the batteries years later.

I'll never buy another camera from these guys again.
That departure from the subject, it does take decent photos as long as the light is BRIGHT. Dim to shed weight dim conditions forget about it.

grim service again
uniformity was not sent because of credit card problems said a voice I could not see. this camera and last one purchased sent with no cd programs for operating camera. I will never buy anything from amazon again and scarceness no further emails from amazon.
Sanyo Xacti HD1 - POJ
I bought this camera one year ago a moment ago prior to one of my mountain climbing expeditions. I liked it for the lightweight and the HD exhibition. I bouth it from a shop in San Francisco and paid over $900.

I think this was the worst goods I have ever purchased.

The camera did not make me any movie in the mountains (in any mountains, not only this one). Once at high altitude I felt so frustrated that almost threw it down from 15,000 ft. The snow in the high mountains and the severe sun completely incapacitate the camera, even at the lowest sensitivity and with strong ND purify. Because of the strong sun the LCD display is completely invisible to the operator, so I just cannon-ball and hoped that the camera will record something. The result is that I do not have any movie or any picture from the climbs. Everything became pasty during the day.

The camera is not recording anything sensible in the evenings either. It is not possible to accomodate to the conflict. Everything gets white or completely black.

Well, you may think that I am unexperienced photographer, but I have over 20 year practice on Photography. This is the worst I ever had.

I thought that al least I have e good camera for the normal status in the city. Another disapointment! First, before you can record any movie you have to spend several minutes to show a preference for the right settings. The camera is unfriendly and clumsy. There is no auto fashion. Second, the HD feature is a pure BS. Any Canon camera, even the normal still camera makes well-advised movies that this one. Xacti is ways too slow to adjust to the changing light situation as you move the camera.

Well, you may think that at least it has 10Mp resolution when used as a still camera. Hah!!! The pictures you get with this camera are as stuff b merchandise as the pictures you get with your cellphone. I haven't made any good still picture with this camera.

If you believe that this is bad enough, wait for the rest. The reliability of this "HD thing" is really the worst. As I was making shots the camera screen down and could not be started anymore. I called Sanyo and they told me, that the camera is NOT under warranty (the agreement is only 90 days!!!). You have to send it somewhere to IL to a private repair inform on. You pay for shipment, pay for evaluation, pay for the repair, pay for the shipment back. Totally I paid about $200. The appraisal showed that the camera has a burnt PCB. From WHAT? From a 3.7V 1A battery? The repair purchase waited 3 weeks for Sanyo to send them only the spare part. Anyway, it took me over a month to get it back.

It is already 11 months since I have this camera and I am exhilarated to dispose it.

I would rate this product zero stars, but the systems requires me to asign at least one unrivalled.
Importance every penny
I did indubitably a bit of research on the Sanyo Xacti and other waterproof digital video cameras. The choice was between the Sanyo, Olympus or the Pentax Optio.
I chose the Sanyo for its category, design and ease of operation.
I took the camera to Miami Careen and had a blast with it. I was not let down.
I had no problem hanging on to the Xacti even when knocked over by a wave. The quality of the video is suberb. The still images are razor natty. The camera should be used on the highest quality setting for both still and video. I therefore intimate you buy the 4gb card.

The menu offers a large number of options for both video and still aspect.
Don't be intimidated by the size of the operators manual. Start with the 'Quick Start Conduct' and gradually read about the other features.
The price of the camera varies from collection to store. That should be your biggest problem with the purchase.
Sanyo Xacti HD2
This is a high property camera that is not real easy to use. The docking station takes some effert to get a eulogistic connection, you just have to feel around until it is docked. The real disappointment is the software the camera linked with a set be in contact with of the button but after a week of trying I never did get a MP4 file to load into the computer. I was able stuff some files out of the camera with other software but not with the programs that came in the box. Where is their quality check? If the software had been of the same quality as the camera and the price had been $200.00 less, I would still have the camera.

Customer Reviews

Customer BEWARE!!! VERY DISSAPPOINTED WITH THIS PRODUCT AND WITH SANYO LACK OF CUSTOMER Endure!!!
Well we purchased this camcorder over a year ago. I on occasions use this only for Christmas, birthdays and of course the kids end of school programs. If I use it 5 times this year that was a lot. It worked virtuoso although it was very confusing to operate. In addition I found this camera to be very awkward to hold. The still photos were okay I never in point of fact used this function.
I just went to use the camcorder and I found I had a black motion pictures and all the footage that I had stored on it has vanished!! This is horrible all my memories are lost forever! I called Sanyo client service well they suck because I was told I would have to pay for the repair its no longer under warranty. Sanyo undertaking is only 90 days!!! I WILL NEVER BUY A SANYO PRODUCT EVER AGAIN!!! This company does not side with behind its product or its customers!! I should have bought a SONY!! I learned the hard way!
DO NOT BUY!
when it worked, it worked significant, but after about 2 weeks, the screen went black and stayed that way. luckily, i bought it Euphemistic pre-owned for cheap. unluckily, that voided the warranty. last sanyo product i will ever buy...ever. cant even find a place in my city that sells or can fix them. not willing to pay 200 dollars to get it repaired by the company. big ripoff. uncommonly pissed. i guess ill just have to live with throwing 350 dollars out the window.
Jet screen of death
I was astonished to read the reviews that mirrored my personal experience. This will be my last Sanyo anything... Sanyo should have provided firmware to fix their lighting shortcomings and paid for the bulky amount of camera failures.
Negroid screen of death
5 existence after the one year warranty expired I turned the camera on and there was no preview simile on the view screen. Everything else seemed fine, it took pictures (although blank), the normal was working, voice instructions were OK too. Checked some HD1 forums and found this to be a very common tough nut to crack with HD1's. Called tech support and was told I was to pay for parts and labor since it was out of undertaking. Labor was only 90 days anyway. I asked the tech if there was a possibility of a withdrawal and was told "no". Too bad, it was a good video camera. Stills need noticeably a bit of light. Stay away from used HD1's. I think I will stay in a different place from Sanyo after this experience.
Customer Beware
I saw a assess for this camera in a magazine when they first came out and it sounded like a great obsession. I ordered one from the PX. It took forever to come in and when it did there was no picture, only a black hide. The PX doesn't have the best track record for electronics, so after I took it back, I bought another one somewhere else. It came in and worked. I kindliness it took great video, nice vibrant colors. There is a chiefly delay when taking pictures, so you have to anticipate what will happen during action shots and click a few seconds in move, and don't even bother taking pictures while taking video. It leaves a noticable glitch in the video burn. I used this camera very little. I pulled it out for band concerts and such to take a few pictures. I always stored it in a padded crate, etc. Anyway, after about 6 months I turn it on one day and I have a black screen again. My husband called the proprietorship...apparently this is a known issue which occurs frequently. My camera should have still been under promise, but the guy said because of its model number it was made in Japan so the warranty didn't put in. (I thought they were all made in Japan). Anyway, we could send it all in (in the original packaging) and they would repair it. We did. They charged us over $200! I have employed the camera 6 times since it has been repaired. I have treated it gently and handled it with attend to. Yesterday I turned it on to make sure the battery was charged and well-disposed to tape my daughter's graduation and the black screen was back. I want to cry. I'm out a lot of filthy rich and I have nothing to show for it but a defective product that should have been recalled.
