IT OK... but 2 things to advised of...This is a worthwhile little cam. I see it as a step above a cell phone video. The thing I like about it, is its portability and Wantonly ready. You can go from having the camera OFF to Recording video in seconds.
The two things I do not like:
1) If you bow to the USB sync cable... you are in trouble!! It is NOT a standard cable! It looks like one, but the end you join forces into the camera is NOT standard. I lost mine and had to search the internet for an hour to find one players who has replacements. They are going to charge me over $35.00 to replace this cable. SUCH A SCAM !!! Sanyo itself does NOT have this replacement line listed anywhere on their site. (You would think that a company would make a replacement radiogram for their product easy to order. Not Sanyo!! Not for the Xacti VPC-CG9)
2) This camera is useless in low light situations. If it is even a little dark, the picture degrades to almost completely blind. Even indoors the advise fully is very poor- nearly unusable, unless you have the window wide unencumbered and it is bright outside.
oh and even though this camera has image stabilization, which is amazing to find on a manageable cam like this, it is still quite shaky.
Consumer Beware! Short Warranty and Terrible Service.
This effect comes with a very short 90-day warranty and terrible phone and web plot support. I did not pay attention to how long the warranty period was when placing my non-functional in Thanksgiving 2008. Big mistake. I used the camera only on vacations and holidays. So on the 3rd use this existence summer (about 8 months after the purchase), the auto-zoom went unfeeling. I then checked the warranty and realized it came with a 3-month labor pledge. I went ahead and call their customer support. It took several calls and prolonged waits to finally get through, only to be told the closest service center is in IL (I fare in MD). After considering the shipping cost, and the repair labor cost. I straight declared total loss. I will never buy another Sanyo product again.
It has its domicile....
Update 11-12-09 3 stars
The indoors simple light pictures and video this takes is unacceptably poor so I returned it. If this is acquainted with outdoors only, or with flash indoors, it takes fairly good pictures and complex video. For this price you might look elsewhere like the Canon SX110 series.
Master Review 4 stars
First of all I own Canon cameras (Canon SD1000 and Canon SX110) that take wiser photo's and videos than this does but the things this combo does is from A to Z good. I like the pistol grip style, the nice in the main screen and the audio is excellent. I was hoping it was a little thinner as it puts a protuberance in your pocket, any thicker and it would be a deal breaker. It is something you would not mind having on you most of the opportunity at a place like Disneyland. It feels well constructed and I like the lens being recessed into the congress as it won't get finger prints easily. As others have said it does not take good pictures or video in indisposed lit areas but in good light it is good on pictures and video. It has some commendable features most point and shoot cameras don't and for the money its worth it. It's wrong in this world is for someone that wants spur of the moment decent video's and pictures principally to send over the internet to family and friends. Its not the camera you want for once in a lifetime photos or videos. Mull over this a second camera or video camera as its not a DSLR or a $350 48x visual zoom camcorder and it doesn't pretend to be. It has its place......
misleading
Bought this camera in a family way all listed features to work. This camera takes fair vidios,if you don't move to much, flaxen-haired still pictures but won't print date on photo copies or on images transfered to computer.Contacted Sanyo and after 4 or 5 emails back and fourth their last retort was that it will not print date unless you have PicBridge on your printer or on images transfered to computer.I also took my sd liable act to Wal-Mart to make copies and it will not print dates with their photo printer. This best is useless if it will only work under certain conditions.I think the biggest unmanageable is Sanyo's failure to acknowledge that this camera isn't working right. What good is a pledge if they won't fix the problem?NO MORE SANYO FOR ME!!!
Strict little cam
The camera is accurately what I was expecting for - beautiful, little camcorder, small enough to carry around most of the days (which was the reason I bought it) with video quality ok for most of the situations. This camera is indeed does not have the topmost IQ around, but wait, we don't expect the image quality of semi-pro 3CCD camera from a toy that panic in you pocket. As I said, I needed a camera that I could carry around with me all the time with satisfactionary IQ, and Xati was the to be just choice. In sunlight the colors are good and video is sharp and unbroken (unless you start to peek at the pixel level), indoors it clearly much less impressive, with a lot of noise and noise reduction smearing artifacts, but watchable anyway.
The body quality if fine, the camera design is great and device indeed look striking. And it is much more convenient to hold in your hands, than phone-style Flip camera, for specimen. What I did like less, is annoying lens cap, which (if used) is somewhat awkward to depose and if strapped with included loop - tends to get in front of the lens when your are shooting, unless you endure d present it. I don't have a problem with non-standard usb, like several people here mentioned - because I simply don't use it at all - I exactly pop out the memory card and insert into card reader built-in in most laptops, or use exterior cardreader for desktop computer, which is way more convenient than camera lying around PC connected with cables. The mobile is indeed small, and it is pity it lacks the ability to charge battery in-camera, but the stallion is very compact itself, and it battery charges very fast.
