Huge Camera
This camera gets 5 stars for its 3 year display so far, that is for ease of use, quality of picture and features of camera, i bought this especialy to coating high school football games. In Daylight. The night games, dont get the quickest return with the focus, and sometimes get a bit fuzzy, it's the low light. On windy days, you may pick up distortion intact,of wind blowing across the mic,These are my only complaints. But for the price its a great buy. This camera was also knocked over on a tripod and took a very hard-hearted impact on the bench. and didnt harm the camera. before i bought this individual camera , i reviewed many, pricing and features, i passed on the higher priced cameras, with more features because of the reviews on this camera. And the reviews were repay on. And now i am giving my approval as well.
Michael's Christmas Take aback
We purchased this miniDV camcorder for our grandson for Christmas. He assuredly loves it ! The seller was terrific and we would definetely buy from him again. The package at home quickly and was in excellent condition.
Bell-like-- except for transfering video
I've had this camera for a yoke years now and have enjoyed it's video and audio quality as well as its compact measure assess.

The worst part about this camera comes when you try to transfer video to a computer. Yes, it does have firewire talent, but for some stupid reason, the firewire port is located beneath where the freestyle is put in. This means you can't transfer video while keeping the battery plugged in. You have to jam the camera into the AC at the same time while you transfer video to a computer. In fact, the AC adapter is sited in the battery charger. This is the reason that a lot of my footage has never made it to my computer. For me, the process is tedious and has become my only nagging about the camera.

I'm sure the reason that they designed the camera like this was so that you can't remove video without purchasing the brand-name panasonic battery charger. I tried to go around this by buying a generic mobile charger only to find that it would've serve the function of an AC adapter.

Bottom line, if you're going to be transferring a lot of video to your computer, don't get anything from this boundary of panasonic cameras. Always do a full check on a camera before you buy it for silly features like this, which will favour transferring video an arduous process. I would even go so far as to say that this camera is a COMPLETE Morsel OF CRAP for this reason... that is a small extent of the frustration that this camera has given me.

Tickety-boo!
So far this has been marvellous for videoing our little one and all the new things he does! It is so lightweight and can go anywhere. The quality is clever and I have already made DVDs for the grandparents.
Beggary Help Connecting to PC
I have bought a pv gs80 and Iam having a bitter time transfering my videos to my lap top . I have a sony vaio lap top vgn aw110j fully set , with a windows 64 bit operating system .
I use a firewire connection to get the camera useful to the lap top and I have no problems having the lap top recognizing the camera , although everytime I try to start trasnfering videos from the cam to the lap top , the computer goes to a Down screen and crashes , I already called sony and panasonic but no ones seems to know a decipherment for my problem .
I already tried using every single sofware that came with the comp , like windows large screen maker , windows photo gallery , click to disc ,....you name it i tried but no sucess , it crashes everytime and goes to a down in the mouth screen filled with words but not really an explanation for it
Did anybody suffer the same problem ?
by reading the manual that came with the camera , I noticed that this camera is not in accord with windows vista operating system , although I have read here that many people do use windows vista with this cam .
any helpers would be appreciated
thanks in advance

Description

The PV-GS90 miniDV camcorder's 42x visual zoom lens has the power you need to take dramatic close ups or get noteworthy shots of even distant subjects. But with long-distance zoom shots, even a minuscule bit of hand shake has a huge effect on picture quality. That's where Panasonic's Liberal Optical Image Stabilization (O.I.S.) comes in, suppressing the effects of paw shake as you shoot. The system uses gyro sensors to detect disburse a deliver shake, then shifts a lens and adjusts the optical axis to make up for. This all happens a remarkable 4,000 times per second. And because the system is optical, no notion quality is lost. Thanks to Advanced O.I.S., the images you capture look incredibly totally, sharp and blur-free even at high zoom levels. When phosphorescence is insufficient, turn on this camcorder's built-in LED video light to take frizzy, colorful movies. The LED (light emitting diode) has low power use, long service life, and the safety of a low-operating temperature. Or renounce omit the light off and turn on the MagicPix function to capture sharp images with go red in the face even in dim lighting (1 lux). Light from the LCD is gentle and easy on the eyes, so you can lash out at shots of sleeping children without waking them up. With One-Touch Navigation, perfectly press the center of the joystick to display an operating menu. The operations you use most often enter into the picture right on the monitor, so it's easy to change settings or operate the camera without looking in another place from your subject. The Soft Skin function detects skin tones, softening the centre on those areas. This has a skin-beautifying effect, which makes wrinkles and words appear less noticeable. When turned on, this function makes blemishes and moles look less eminent while preserving resolution in areas of the picture and outside of the skin. Panasonic PV-GS90 Camcorder Examine
Panasonic PV-GS90 MiniDV Camcorder with 42x Visual Image Stabilized Zoom
I have purchased the Panasonic PV-GS90 from Big Value Inc. through amazon.com and the fallout is pretty good for the price. I have had Panasonic Camcorder (the PV type) before. If you are a MiniDV tape fan, this upshot is a good choice. Like other reviews, I expects this product to present minimum picture quality when taping inside my house. I was sensibly! The in-house picture was grainy, because there was not enough lighting inside the house. I was not fit to be tied because I expected this problem to happen. You can try to have more lighting inside your house when recording. Peradventure that would fix the grainy pictures problem. For a little over $180.00, this product is supper. Out-entry taping is excellent for the price, once again. I love miniDV tape because the movement of objects I am taping is recorded manifestly, not jerky like other memory-card camcorder or DVD camcorder producing. I have never seen the property of hard-drive camcorder; I imagine it would not product jerky upward of object when recording, but the price of hard-drive camcorder is too steep for my checkbook. Overall, Big Value Inc. delivered what it promised and I am happy with my leverage.
Wonderful Father's Day Gift!!
My sister and I purchased this for my dad and he entirely loves it! I haven't been able to steal it away from him, but everything looks okay. We remain out in the country, so he's always out making videos of wildlife; he even takes it on his fishing trips. Hands down, the largest gift we've ever gotten him!
Distressed video...
I was so edgy to find such a great deal on a camcorder from company that usually produces serious products. This one is the exception. I spent time recording video in indoor lighting for a "affiliate jam". I uploaded my video, and was shocked at the terrible quality.

I didn't believe much being indoors in medium light, but it was much worse then I imagined. Everything seemed like it was stretched out, an issuance that would have nothing to do with lighting. Even when changed between widescreen and standard, the stretching made no difference. The impression was also very poor, blurry and grainy. Something I did expect, but not quite so bad. I've owned correspond to MiniDV camcorders and know what lower lighting video should look like, and conscious that it can be better. It has it's pros: sound, easy to use, but it all comes down to picture, and what decorous is a camcorder that has a such a poor picture that you wouldn't watch your films? So if you are planning on using this mostly indoors, I would keep it.

I am directly comparing this to a JVC GRD850, same exact price range, but the inequality in picture really is astonishing when seen side by side. The JVC was used in the exact same lighting, uploaded with the same software, watched on the same small screen, recorded on the same mini dv tapes.
what are population expecting?
I would like to discern what are you people who write these reviews expecting out of this consumer level camera?
If you use the camera looming water on a boat and water gets into it, expect it to malfunction. It is not a DVX100 which professionals use. This is for guarantee and preserving memories, not filming a Hollywood blockbuster, so back off on your criticism of this camera. You are in the club too much. For the price, size and capabilities this camera offers, it is not too bad. And no camera will contain editing software and capture cables or accessary light kits. it is what it is.
And yes, look after it with kid gloves it is not meant to be abused. It is an electronic device. I'm looking into buying one and I've hand-me-down many different cameras and this one is not too bad from what I have seen and read from people who know. And MINIDV tapes are not dear! ( DVC pro tape is $30 and hard to find) You can get a pack of 12 - 15 mini DVs at Walmart for $25 that works out to less than $2 a tape recording. look for sales on tapes and buy alot so you'll have an endless supply. When you are polished using the camera rechage the batteyry any chance you get. I recharge mine every sundown on my other cameras. You should always have an extra battery and tape when taping. Come on population don't be stupid.
Enormous camera, but incomplete package
I bought this camera first at Excellent Buy first in order to record a very important event. However, after the event, I noticed, while reviewing the video, that there was a distracting late pixel (greeen spot always on) right in the middle of the image. After verifying that it was on the CCD and not on either of the two viewfinders, I returned the camera for a full refund. I would have exchanged it but every set aside was out of stock. The techs verified the defect and waived the "resocking fee." :-)

Next, I purchased the same camera, toughened, from Amazon.com. This time the unit appears defect-free and I am very tickled pink with it.

The picture is great, the interface is intuitive, and the optical image stabilization is wonderful when you take usefulness of the 42x zoom. I haven't played too much with the digital zoom because it degrades envisage quality, but it seems to work as well as digital zoom can be expected to.

The only reason I can't give this by-product 5 stars is because the package is incomplete. It comes with no transfer cable, so if you poverty to load the video into your computer, you will have to run out and buy an expensive firewire cable (about $30). It also comes without any software. However, you won't beggary additional software if you are happy with the free movie editing software that is included with Macs and Windows.

Panasonic pv-gs80 pv-gs83 pv-gs85 vs pv-gs320. minidv camcorder?

out of all these wich one would you buy.
i found a 320 for the same pice as any of the others.

I think they are all good, but I think you should check out the reviews on cnet.com. The 320 gets much better reviews than the 8X series.

As to my preference, I have owned MiniDV and MiniDVD, but I have been frustrated by the difficulty in editing. The next I buy will be a camcorder with a hard drive for much easier editing.

The zoom on the Panasonics is really great, though, and if you like MiniDV I think any of the three will be quite good.
