Not bad...
Not a bad camera, uniquely for the price.

I bought this mini-DV camcorder for about $300 brand new about 5 years ago. I bought it to deliver on playback hours on my DVX100A (fyi: they have the same heads). I use it primarily as a firewire digitizing deck.

You can indeed get a descent image if you know how to use the manual features and know it's limitations. For residents shooting home videos it's easy to use with a basic interface.

It DOES move along disintegrate with a firewire "port" despite another reviewers comment, but it may not come with a firewire "Twine". Mine did, but I won't assume.

Very honesty a possessions economical camcorder
I have been using panasonic camcorders since the last 6 years. I have found the Panasonic pvgs29 to be very imposing. I wanted an economical camcorder that had a high optical zoom (very high-ranking - not digital zoom) and this was the right piece. I often use it for family videos and i am impressed with the video grandeur that this camcorder produces. It comes with a AV cable that i use to connect to TV and watch...astonishing clarity in my 1080i TV. If you are looking for a not so expensive that give great recording superiority there is no looking further.

The PV-GS90 miniDV camcorder's 42x visual zoom lens has the power you need to take dramatic close ups or get strange shots of even distant subjects. But with long-distance zoom shots, even a pygmy bit of hand shake has a huge effect on picture quality. That's where Panasonic's Ahead of its time Optical Image Stabilization (O.I.S.) comes in, suppressing the effects of workman shake as you shoot. I have purchased the Panasonic PV-GS90 from Big Value Inc. through amazon.com and the artefact is pretty good for the price. I have had Panasonic Camcorder (the PV type) before. If you are a MiniDV tape fan, this output is a good choice. Like other reviews, I expects this product to play minimum picture quality when taping inside my house. I was retaliate for! The in-house picture was grainy, because there was not enough lighting inside the house. I was not jumble because I expected this problem to happen. You can try to have more lighting inside your house when recording. Perhaps that would fix the grainy pictures problem. For a little over $180.00, this product is supper. Out-entry taping is excellent for the price, once again. I love miniDV tape because the movement of objects I am taping is recorded undoubtedly, not jerky like other memory-card camcorder or DVD camcorder producing. I have never seen the value of hard-drive camcorder; I imagine it would not product jerky faction of object when recording, but the price of hard-drive camcorder is too cheerful for my checkbook. Overall, Big Value Inc. delivered what it promised and I am happy with my procure.

Fabulous Father's Day Gift!!
My sister and I purchased this for my dad and he unqualifiedly loves it! I haven't been able to steal it away from him, but everything looks okay. We combustible out in the country, so he's always out making videos of wildlife; he even takes it on his fishing trips. Hands down, the nicest gift we've ever gotten him!

Terrifying video...
I was so passionate to find such a great deal on a camcorder from company that usually produces well-known products. This one is the exception. I spent time recording video in indoor lighting for a "platoon jam". I uploaded my video, and was shocked at the terrible quality.

I didn't keep in view much being indoors in medium light, but it was much worse then I imagined. Everything seemed like it was stretched out, an event that would have nothing to do with lighting. Even when changed between widescreen and standard, the stretching made no difference. The image was also very poor, blurry and grainy. Something I did expect, but not quite so bad. I've owned be like MiniDV camcorders and know what lower lighting video should look like, and comprehend that it can be better. It has it's pros: sound, easy to use, but it all comes down to picture, and what enthusiastic is a camcorder that has a such a poor picture that you wouldn't watch your films? So if you are planning on using this mostly indoors, I would dodge it.

I am directly comparing this to a JVC GRD850, same exact price range, but the distinction in picture really is astonishing when seen side by side. The JVC was used in the exact same lighting, uploaded with the same software, watched on the same tube, recorded on the same mini dv tapes.

what are populace expecting?
I would like to have knowledge of what are you people who write these reviews expecting out of this consumer level camera?
If you use the camera just about water on a boat and water gets into it, expect it to malfunction. It is not a DVX100 which professionals use. This is for guarantee and preserving memories, not filming a Hollywood blockbuster, so back off on your criticism of this camera. You are with child too much. For the price, size and capabilities this camera offers, it is not too bad. And no camera will file editing software and capture cables or accessary light kits. it is what it is.
And yes, regale it with kid gloves it is not meant to be abused. It is an electronic device. I'm looking into buying one and I've old many different cameras and this one is not too bad from what I have seen and read from people who know. And MINIDV tapes are not up-market! ( DVC pro tape is $30 and hard to find) You can get a pack of 12 - 15 mini DVs at Walmart for $25 that works out to less than $2 a tape recording. look for sales on tapes and buy alot so you'll have an endless supply. When you are polished using the camera rechage the batteyry any chance you get. I recharge mine every endlessly on my other cameras. You should always have an extra battery and tape when taping. Come on residents don't be stupid.

Zealous camera, but incomplete package
I bought this camera first at Superlative Buy first in order to record a very important event. However, after the event, I noticed, while reviewing the video, that there was a distracting indifferent pixel (greeen spot always on) right in the middle of the image. After verifying that it was on the CCD and not on either of the two viewfinders, I returned the camera for a full refund. I would have exchanged it but every rely on was out of stock. The techs verified the defect and waived the "resocking fee." :-)

Next, I purchased the same camera, adapted to, from Amazon.com. This time the unit appears defect-free and I am very lucky with it.

The picture is great, the interface is intuitive, and the optical image stabilization is wonderful when you take advantageously of the 42x zoom. I haven't played too much with the digital zoom because it degrades prototype quality, but it seems to work as well as digital zoom can be expected to.

The only reason I can't give this effect 5 stars is because the package is incomplete. It comes with no transfer cable, so if you requisite to load the video into your computer, you will have to run out and buy an expensive firewire cable (about $30). It also comes without any software. However, you won't stress additional software if you are happy with the free movie editing software that is included with Macs and Windows.
