Flattering camera - pain in the butt to unload videos. For the price I theorize it's a quality HD video camera you can get. Image quality is solid and the built in 60 gig storage is formidable.
If you have a mac, it will easily sync with any version of iMovie after iMovie '08. I had iMovie HD on my 3 year old mac and was failed when I found out I had to purchase a new version of iLife to unload the video files.
Another disagreeable design is in how you have to hook it up to the computer or TV. Apparently the designers are chronic crack heads because all ports are behind the battery-operated. You have to remove the battery, use the charging cord to plug the camera into an way out, then plug in the video cables or USB cable where the battery was. It's quite if possible the worst design ever because it makes it impossible to sync the camera with freestyle power.
If not for this horrible design flaw I'd love this camera. Every other quality has made me happy. Well, the built in microphone isn't great, but it is okay. Due to the battery end I do wish I had done a little more research to see if there's an alternative HD video camera.
*UPDATE (July 19, 2010): I from the outset rated this with 4 stars. I paid around $600 for this camera about a year ago. Now that I see it payout up around $1000 I'm dropping my rating to 3 stars. This is nowhere close to being a $1000 camera. In truth, due to the fact that all the ports are behind the battery I'm not 100% sure it's worth $600.
All very well but....
What ever the inns and outs of the standing of the video which is actually not too bad for the price, the problem that most people are going to come around c regard accross is how to create usable functioning HD discs that play bakc on their dvd players. I have run the spectrum of copying every kind of format ruining a goodly supply of dvds in the deal with and none of them work. The only software that will play the files is Media player exemplary(free to download) not even vlc will play them without combing. I have a quad core pc with Plunder so power is not the problem. The software that comes with the camera is rubbish....it wont let you supreme the source files from the pc hard drive so any attempt at burning a disc has to be done with another collector. Corel studio does'nt cut the mustard so quite what one is supposed to do with a agonizingly drive full of HD video footage that is only viewable with media classic, I don't separate. The usual nightmare scenario of conflicting formats and high expectations from "master" equipment that does not deliver a final product.
Panasonic HDC-HS100 Rocks!
This camcorder is replete with features and is very easy to use. Being full HD the image quality is absolutely amazing. I was making allowance for buying an SD camcorder and was so glad I decided to spring the extra money for HD. Optical zoom is fantastic & it fits in the hand easily. Penchant feature would have to be its' easy compatibility with my Panasonic BD-60 Blu-Ray player. You won't be dissapointed with this one!!!
Totaly in tenderness, it saves me a ton of time.
I go from shooting video on the coast with my boy's to YouTube 1280x720 6000 b/s effortless using Pinnacle 12 Studio. With one click I either manage MP4 or write to DVD or Blue ray. Now all that for 550US for the cam and 100US for Pinnacle.
I for one am verry joyous

Disppointing artifact from Panasonic
Got this from Amazon last week. The merchandise is advertised as HD but the video quality is more like SD, somewhat better than SD in full light barely VHS tape quality in low light. Even at the highest determination setting, it is not even close to HD. The only thing good I can say about this camcorder is its handy immensity. This unit is headed back.
