Carry-on, Durable, Great Product for the price
Bought this inconsequential guy because of the $80 deal I saw. It's got expandable memory, different video settings up to 720p 60fps (Missile 2min worth of 60fps 720p and came out to around 180MB). I dropped an 8GB SD dance-card and for the battery I used Duracell rechargeable 2650mAh(?) (I over that's right...it's better than what came with the camera so) No comment on the battery individual of the stock ones.

I agree with the reviewers who mentioned low lighting lag. True ambient lighting or bright environments work very well.

I also mentioned this is wear-resistant. I went snowboarding with this little guy in my pocket. I took a spill and landed quickly on top of this camera. How do I know this? because I have a black&blue with the shape of the camera on my casket. I turned the camera ON and surprisingly, it worked! I weigh 190lbs.

This is plainly a better deal than the FlipMino cameras because of one simple aspect: EXPANDABLE Homage!!! even if I didn't get great HD quality, I'd still get this one because I have the option to use more memory...
My 1st Snaffle CAM
I was and still new in this province of handy cams, pocket cams and so on!!! but I like a lot this cam! shamed, easy to carry everywhere! easy to use!! the video quality and question is just perfect!! considering that I payed less than $99 USD - I think about the newst models must be better related with the image stabilization r! but out of that! I was a excellente choice to record daily episodes of life!
well usefulness the money
I bought this without ever having seen one in personally based on reviews and pictures online. I must say it has a quality look and sense to it that is missing in the other typical low resolution video recorders I have seen. In appendix to all the nice features that make it user friendly and fun to use, I like the moderate draw string carry bag that it comes with that allows me to put it comfortably into my pants swipe without fear of scratces to the outer shell and LCD screen. The larger than well-adjusted LCD screen is great for watching the videos too! A great value. For the amount - you won't be disapointed!
Fast product!
We've been bloody pleased with this camera. We purchased after researching several models (Vado, miscellaneous Flips, etc.). This one had everything we were looking for: AA batteries (no proprietary battery to stand up out and no waiting to recharge - this one even came with a pair of rechargeables and a charger), expandable (SD) respect, onboard AV and HD outputs (comes with cables), 720p (so I don't have to upgrade my PC to correct clips like I probably would if I shot full 1080p), excellent notion quality, and good customer ratings from current users (even punter than the newer, more expensive Zi8). The unit powers up super rakishly and is ready to film the moment the screen lights up - we're able to corral a lot of "kid" moments before they're over (which would often end while our other cameras were still powering up). The thing is so simple to ply, I never even read the instruction manual - I took it out of the box, put batteries in, and started shooting and reviewing videos. There are only two buttons besides the pedals, and their purposes are obvious from the labels. The 2x digital zoom is just enough to get you a meagre closer, and anything more powerful would make such a small unit difficult to rabbit still anyway - it's perfectly suited for our needs. We had just purchased a nice digital (still) camera because it also discharge HD video, but actually end up using the Zi6 a lot more often for video because it's so much more portable and easy to use. There are only three things that could make room it better: Make it a little smaller (which will come in time, though the cost out would probably climb) - add image stabilization, which would make a slight stronger zoom possible (but the price would also go up), and make it waterproof (which I now see they're doing with the new EIS in April - it will be enchanting to see if the user ratings for that model equal the Zi6 - I thought the Zi8 knock short in that capacity - not all the changes were necessarily improvements in that case, outwardly). All in all, this has been one of the most satisfying technology purchases we've made.

Customer Reviews

Very elementary, pleasant experience
I had almost made up my have any objection to to get a FlipMino HD and at the last second, I saw this comparison. After seeing some videos and pictures sniper with both, I concluded that the Kodak Zi6 had better lighting, white balance, picture rank and sound quality. I was surprised to find it was also much cheaper than the $250+ model FlipMino HD I was making allowance for. Also, the FlipMino HD only took moving videos, not stills. This camcorder takes still photos as well as three assorted versions of video, and it comes with a focus switch to get high rank "super close-ups" too.

After it arrived, I put the batteries in and turned it on. Turning it on gave me only a delicate pause. I was expecting it to be a toggle for on or off, but you actually slide the button over and look on it for a few seconds to turn it on, and do the same to turn it off. From there, the entire interface is easy to tally out without needing any kind of manual. It's very intuitive.

I love how compact it is. It makes it very shirt-pocket. At the same time, the buttons don't suffer the micro-mania that has been sweeping technology over the last few years. The buttons are still very amicable to push and finagle as you need to despite the camcorder's small immensity. Picture and sound quality are awesome, and simple push of a knob on the front opens up a USB stick to port photos and videos right over to your computer within very recently seconds. When you're done, you just flip it back down and it resumes its streamline design. It's bright!

Things to consider:
- The power button is not a toggle.
- The batteries that came with the camcorder are rechargeable and do sink in fare with a recharger, but mine only came charged about 10% so they did not last very long initially.
- You will indigence more memory if you plan on taking much video. It comes with only 128 megabytes, but can spread out up to 32 gigabytes. I found 8 gigabytes was more than enough for my own needs.
- The USB stick goes when from the camera to the computer, meaning there is no cable in between the two, which can be tricky for certain computers. Decide on sure it's supported properly and not just hanging from the computer via the USB stick or it could weaken the either of the USB jacks.
- It includes cables to connect directly to your TV so you can watch your videos level from the camcorder on your television.
- One mode of video is VGA (or "web-ready") which means you don't have to go through time compressing it to share on the web; it's already ready.
- It includes video editing software.

Whole, I am very, very pleased with this camcorder, especially at this price!
Jittery audio and choppy video
Some of the videos I recorded had very bad jittery audio. It didn't thing whether there was ambient noise or not. I returned this unit and Amazon lived up to its name once again by doing a full refund.

Real:
Photo mode - not the best, but is there! Pictures look like a paused video.
Outward memory
Rechargeable, removable batteries
Self-portrait replication
720p does look fantastic when played on HDTV
Mac support - can use natural iMovie '08

Bad:
Jittery audio - made it useless for me - my kids' voices came out erratic
Poor video refresh - yes 720p looks great, but the zi6 videos look very choppy. I feeling the technical term is frame rate(?) Underwhelming when you run while moving - e.g. walking, panning, following my kids.
Flimsy - fraternity is very flimsy. I'm 100% sure it can't take even one drop to the floor. With kids it is inescapable.

Overall, a great alternative to the Flip series, but the audio emanation killed my enthusiasm. Wanted to get the zi8 after returning this, but decided against it after reading 'inebriated pitched audio' issue with it. Seems like Kodak couldn't figure out audio yet!

What did I quiet for now - iPod nano w/ video. Read my review on that if interested.
No continous playback on TV
I purchased a refurbished Zi6 from New Water's edge. I have been using camcorders since my daughter was born many many years ago, and this is my first HD unit. I moral want to find out what HD is all about before I throw away money at more expansive unit.

I only have a XT to vision the videos. It's choppy (to be expected due to slower PC) but the videos were good with up to snuff lighting. It's acceptable in flourescent lighting and a half dim living scope. It's very bad in dawn just before the sunrise while driving.

The key to using Zi6 is to remind myself that "It is a camera" and without visual stabilization or SuperSteady Shot - minimize jumping or walking around while recording, holding and Locking my missiles close to body while taking the videos, taking video in a outcropping a on ice b in a shambles solid position while at night or dawn. And I will not be disappointed.

The battery spark of life is an hour or more with a set of brand new Sony 2500 mAh NiMH. The recording period is excellent as compare to half hour(ish) with W290 and ZS3. It's worthless to complaint about the included freebie as no camera manufacturers will give you an adequate one for sprung.

The only issue that I have with Zi6 is the lack of continuous playback on my analog TV. I need to make light of each videos manually. It's very tiring after a while. If I know about it sooner, I would not buy it.
Noteworthy product!!
This offshoot has been great! It makes great quality video and it is very easy to use with the pop-out USB. The only tough nut to crack I have had with it is that you have to have pretty good lighting in the room in order for it to get a good video.

It is exceptionally easy to use with only a few buttons on the unit. It is around the size of a cell phone too, so I can always have it in my reward.

I would definately recommend this product, especially for the price!!
Crucial pocket camcorder
I will start by saying that I was in the supermarket for a pocket HD camcorder, not a full-size HD camcorder. Moreover, I kept in mind that I wanted something comparatively inexpensive (I didn't want buy something so expensive that I would be too afraid to use it).

That being said, the Kodak Zi6 has been a gigantic purchase so far. I initially set a budget for myself of around $180, and ended up getting this camera for around $106 on Amazon ... a passionate deal. I have since used this camcorder at a baseball game, a wedding, and more. Video infatuated in well-lit areas is fantastic. Video in darker areas is, well, to be expected, but, that goes with any camera or camcorder. The portability of this is keen ... fits right in my pocket. The weight is pretty modern development ... the 2 AA batteries weigh more than the camcorder itself ... or so it seems.

I love the chance to expand with an SD card. For now, I've been using a 2 GB card, which would enable me to take roughly a partially hour of HD (30fps) video). I recently purchased a 16 GB SDHC condolence card (also from Amazon) so I look forward to using that. The camcorder can take up to a 32 GB union card.

One thing I will mention is why I chose this product over competitors (i.e., Creative HD Vado and Lose it HD camcorder). I believe the sound is superior in this unit. If you go on YouTube and search videos from each of these camcorder models, I deliberate on you will notice that the sound is a little better with the Zi6 than the other units. And, at the end of the day, what good is a video if you can't consent the people talking?

Product is very user-friendly (if my sister can use it without any problems, anyone can!). Importance the money!

Barren of money
Retails for $150.00. First measure used, lens has horizontal cracks in it. Flip customer ritual: "No replacement part for it". There is NO LENS COVER to protect it. Must have hit something while in tote bag. Garbage OF MONEY. How can they sell this for that price and not allow for a replacement lens. I would pay for it, I be in sympathy with lens is not under warranty. That was not the problem. Like throwing out $150.00. I can't even give it a pre-eminent, but might have to, to get this posted.
acceptable piece of wonder
I bought this to capture my 3yr old daughter activities. In days of yore I had a very old sony miniDV. I was planning to buy a good flash or HD camcoder from Sony again. But I recognize the issues of portability with Sony and their software sucks. Hence was looking a more little, reliable, good quality one. I came across this and read a lot of reviews about it. It lived up to my expectations in almost all aspects.
Pros: Natural potable, good HD quality, Easy to use, Simple Software working, Easy upload to any site.
Cons: Battery and zoom.
egregious product made for ease of use.
The offshoot is everything it claims to be, and more. It is very portable and convenient with great video quality and in good condition for its intended use.

Absolutely no regrets in making this purchase.

We took it Kauai for the trouble run and it performed flawlessly. Viewing on a wide screen HDTV is very hands down to do and fun for all at the end of a day of exploring the island.

Make sure you purchase the cables to pin your HDTV.

Thanks to Amazon for another great product with the usual honourable delivery service and support.
Benevolent camera but certainly not in low light
The camera is mignonne cool and easy to use, but I was mistakenly under the impression that it would take snapshots. To get a snapshot, you have to video a prone to then pick your favorite frame. A couple extra steps never killed anyone, but palatable light is a must for use.
Mate the HD Flip video camera. Perfect for grandparents! Easy!
Enjoyment the HD Flip video camera. Perfect for grandparents! Easy! Hype stop up into the computer to charge. Easy - push a button and go to record, stop, and because of!

virtuous right
In 4 existence and for less than ninety bucks I got this beautiful little hd cam in my hands and I haven't regretted a element about it. It may not be the hip mino hd that all the youtube kids are using, and it doesn't have the abillity to command by usb, but it takes great images, it runs on rechargeable AA batteries and is the dimension of most smartphones. I'd rather feel one of these in my pocket than a metallic candy bar (mino)! Also I offer being able to drop in AA batteries on the fly, than having to hunt down a usb port to cohere my camera off of for an hour or so. The same goes for the card slot memory which keeps me for all practical purposes unlimited on how much recording time I need. I scored a couple of 4gb lexar cards for under $10 so inclusive i'm still spending less than I would have on another pocket cam. And as for this being a 720p only cam: I mounted it in my car and shot my drive over to choicest buy. Once there I used the included hd av cable to plug in to one of the hd tv's and gathered a small thrust of onlookers. It looked fantastic!
Salubrious for the money...
Was doubtful about a refurb item. It came in a Kodak camera box (some other digital camera box) that had me caring when I first opened it. I picked up a 16gb SD to run in this. If you understand the limitations of this it is a nice setup for bright video shots. Now some type of anti shake would be great, but it does not have this, so you have to keep it shut up shop to you and minimize the urge to wave it around when filming. The Kodak software works enormous for DVD transfer, but when you run the MOV's on the PC with this software it appears to speed up the the movement of the people. Not too many other devices at this instant though that you can stick in a pocket or pack and pull out and start taking seemly video with sound.
Bad Pixels, Non-Mending, and Horrible Customer Relations
Three months ago I held Kodak products in reasonably towering regard and I was excited to have purchased my Zi6. As of today, I will never by any Kodak product again. Here's the history...

Early May 2009: Purchase a brand new Zi6 video recorder.

Fashionable May 2009: Take Zi6 on vacation. Upon returning home, I discover that there are several bad (hot) pixels that liven up up like X-mas lights in the videos I take and are terribly evident in moderate to low-delicate conditions. Although disappointed, I realize that issues like these can be mapped out in software/firmware and system to contact Kodak to have it serviced.

Early June 2009: I contact Kodak to attend to arrange for me software to map out the bad pixels; they indicate that they do not offer end users the ability to map out pixels themselves. I ask the online rep to ordain me an RMA number to have the bad pixels mapped out; they indicate that I should go to their main support summon forth and use the automated services there. I go to the automated page and there is no category for bad pixels. I have to connection a rep (again) to request an RMA; finally I am sent the information after some toil.

Early June 2009: I send out the Zi6 for post to one of Kodak's subcontractors. I include the actual pixel location areas in my guarantee that went out with the unit (no ambiguity here... I want bad pixels mapped out. Duration.)

Late June 2009: I receive my Zi6 back and the service memo signs is that the unit was "calibrated"; I was suspicious as to why it was recalibrated and no mention of pixel remapping. I take the Zi6 on a mini-vacation over a weekend. Upon returning familiar with, I discover that the bad pixels are still there.

Late June/Early July 2009: I conjunction Kodak again and complain that the unit was not repaired as I wanted; the bad pixels were not remapped. I that is request that the service request indicate that I want bad pixels mapped out and the rep writes it up that way. I pack up the unit and send it off to the same Kodak service contractor (Precision Camera) in CT with qualifications indicating where the bad pixels are located and again emphasize that I want pixel remapping benefit.

Late July 2009: I receive the unit back a second at all times and the service memo indicates the was issue and the unit checked out; I cringed that nothing was done again.

Inopportune August 2009: I went on a late summer vacation sightsee and took the Zi6 along to try taking more videos (oh yeah, I took a spare camera too as my trusteeship in Kodak had already been heading South).

Early/Mid August 2009: I review the vacation video infatuated with the Zi6 and yes, the bad pixels again had not been repaired by Kodak or its service subcontractor.

Mid August 2009: I phone Kodak one final time and rehash all the trouble they've put me through and the fact that they don't listen to their customers. For three months all I wanted was to have the bad pixels mapped out of the piece and instead got a huge runaround. Kodak's final reply... the piece checked out okay with the service company. (Did I mention they don't do as one is told to their customers?)

Buyer beware if you plan to purchase a Zi6 or any Kodak product based on this encounter. My opinion is that they just don't care about their customers, their service repair providers are a one-liner, and they don't stand behind their own products or warranties.

If you have a functioning Zi6 and enjoy it, then good for you. I'll never buy Kodak again after this despoil of time and money.
Adroit little camera
So far I am impressed with this camera. The only item I have seen that I would change is the fact that the setting for HD60 frames per second cannot be set as a negligence setting. I have a friend that will be taking this camera on a trip to Africa and then we will de facto see how it performs.
Subtle Camera, poor sound
I like the camera and the features. Vigilantly picures and video. Decent digital zoom. A little fidgety so you have to really try and hold your hand as steady as possible and be as smooth as viable with your moves. My only real complaint is for the sound. A subject about 5' somewhere else speaking in a normal voice is barely audible. Not sure if there is something inappropriate or just a problem in general with this camera. Considering the price, this is a enormous deal for a go anywhere camera. I also like the software that comes with it. Easy to initiate and use. Seems fairly intuitive although I have not used it extensively. I was quickly able (on my first try) to take a video, weight it and make a snapshot from one of the frames and send it on it's merry way in less than 5 minutes having never even so much as opened the software. Fundamental to figure out the sound..... otherwise it would have gotten 5 stars. I feel like I'm almost watching a unpronounced movie.

Horrendous portable camcorder
This is a camcorder I in reality use. I have another camcorder that has a flip screen but it is a pain lugging it around. But no problems means of transport the Vado around. It looks and weighs as much as a cell phone and is easy to use.
personal property for the price
I checked many reviews before I got it (6 months ago, paid $125), so it is more or less what I expected. I use it for fun, so it is ok for me. Become angry and Kodad HD camcorders were more expensive ($50 or so more). I prefer to use VGA vogue because files are smaller so it is easy to upload videos to youtube, but HD is reasonably good.
pro:
- easy to use
- video quality options: VGA, HD and HD+
- able to league to HDTV directly (cable included)
- easy transfer to computer
- very burn

cons:
- my real complain is the mic. You need to talk really precise to the camera to get good sound. If recorded sound would very important for your videos, you should look for another boost. Also, you can't connect external mic.
- software included is useless.

My computer have vista basic 64. I could see the videos I recorded, but couldn't edit them using WMM until I found this tutorial [...]

To the nth degree Disappointed
I don't distinguish if I received a broken camera, or all of the cameras are like the one I got. The camera did attain already half charged which leads me to believe that it was previously used, even though I did buy it new. The metaphor quality was embarrassing. To call the footage HD would be the biggest lie I'd ever told. The video nobility was also extremely crappy. The camera would just cut off the video when it was being moved, and then cut back in when it felt like it. The computer equipment was okay, I wouldn't mind keeping it my pocket if it did work. With all the being said, I forthwith returned the item to the seller. I would not recommend this item to anyone. Save your ready money.
Windows 7 saved this camera !
I almost gave up on this video camera only because I could not find weak to use software to just create a DVD of what I recorded. The built in software did not effort if you recorded in HD. You would get video, but no sound or sound and no video. However, the YouTube special attraction worked perfectly. Windows Movie Maker that comes with Vista did not perceive the .AVI file even though it was supposed to. It lacked the codecs for the HD file.

We upgraded to Windows 7 and the Windows Large screen Maker worked great! It works flawlessly and easy to use. We now get so much use out of this passionate video camera. I love it.

Cons: Cannot upgrade to a larger whistle memory. It is only built in. The USB connector gets in the way of the tripod mount. You must prestige it out away from the camera for it to fit or use Creative Lab's tiny tripod. I use it on a 52" tripod.
An Quiet No-Brainer
It's unsentimental to believe a product this small would perform so well, but it does!! The portability is a enormous plus, and the simplicity is what every non-geek dreams of. Nothing to download into your computor as the program to drive it is built into the camera itself! Although the playback screen is small,(as is the whole unit)and the orator just allows you to hear what you've recorded, don't be discouraged. Once you download onto your computor through the ultra-unsophisticated USB hook-up, the picture is excellent (especially on HD+) and the sound is excellent because the microphone is in fact quite sensitive in what it picks up. This camera is like a cellphone in size. It can always be with you w/out compelling up too much space.I've never put music to a video before , yet with this unit I was doing just that in about 3 minutes. Definetely after out [...] for more good advice and instructions on this unit. It's great to keep a extraordinary quality videocamera on yourself for those unexpected moments in life. The accessories are a yard goods idea. I'd suggest a protective cover,an AC charger(or a USB charger that plugs into a block.) If you are going on vacation check out the underwater plastic pouch that lets you snorkel up to 15' mystical to get underwater pictures. If you do long segments of recording(weddings etc) imagine about an extra battery, otherwise 1 is enough. For the price this is a great unit that is alot of fun!! The empirical and fun applications are endless. Remember.....the Gen3 unit has less recall 4gig than this unit (Vado HD) which has 8gig. The memory is worth it!!

Early June 2009: I contact Kodak to support me software to map out the bad pixels; they indicate that they do not offer end users the ability to map out pixels themselves. I ask the online rep to accredit me an RMA number to have the bad pixels mapped out; they indicate that I should go to their main support chapter and use the automated services there. I go to the automated page and there is no category for bad pixels. I have to get in touch with a rep (again) to request an RMA; finally I am sent the information after some toil.

Early June 2009: I send out the Zi6 for military talents to one of Kodak's subcontractors. I include the actual pixel location areas in my official recognition that went out with the unit (no ambiguity here... I want bad pixels mapped out. Epoch.)

Late June 2009: I receive my Zi6 back and the service memo inkling is that the unit was "calibrated"; I was suspicious as to why it was recalibrated and no mention of pixel remapping. I take the Zi6 on a mini-vacation over a weekend. Upon returning diggings, I discover that the bad pixels are still there.

Late June/Early July 2009: I acquaintance Kodak again and complain that the unit was not repaired as I wanted; the bad pixels were not remapped. I to be exact request that the service request indicate that I want bad pixels mapped out and the rep writes it up that way. I parcel up the unit and send it off to the same Kodak service contractor (Precision Camera) in CT with official recognition indicating where the bad pixels are located and again emphasize that I want pixel remapping use.

Late July 2009: I receive the unit back a second however and the service memo indicates the was issue and the unit checked out; I cringed that nothing was done again.

Near the start August 2009: I went on a late summer vacation voyage and took the Zi6 along to try taking more videos (oh yeah, I took a spare camera too as my cartel in Kodak had already been heading South).

Early/Mid August 2009: I review the vacation video infatuated with the Zi6 and yes, the bad pixels again had not been repaired by Kodak or its service subcontractor.

Mid August 2009: I write to Kodak one final time and rehash all the trouble they've put me through and the fact that they don't listen to their customers. For three months all I wanted was to have the bad pixels mapped out of the constituent and instead got a huge runaround. Kodak's final reply... the component checked out okay with the service company. (Did I mention they don't hark to to their customers?)

Buyer beware if you plan to purchase a Zi6 or any Kodak product based on this happening. My opinion is that they just don't care about their customers, their service repair providers are a pun, and they don't stand behind their own products or warranties.

If you have a functioning Zi6 and enjoy it, then good for you. I'll never buy Kodak again after this extra of time and money.
Recall it's limitations
Hardly back from a trip to Alaska with the Zi6. Great video when used just.

This little camera loves light and loves being held still. Have a look at of either of these and your video will be less than stellar.

Pros: small, light, takes AA batteries (lithium batteries exertion great), uses SD cards. Great vids when used in the above-board environment.

Cons: Doesn't like to be moved (panning or barely your hand shaking). Doesn't like anything less than bright spill. Indoor shots will be grainy. Mic doesn't work that great.

Bottom contract for: nice to have

As an aside; Amazon listed as new but sent me a refurb. Refused to earn it right. They've lost a customer for life, and they don't care.

Does the kodak Zi6 take good still images?

I am thinking about getting one and I want to take some still images. Is it easy to do? Is the resolution good?

Thanks!

Sure, but as with any camera, your skills are what determine easy or hard. And the fact that you are buying a video camera, getting good still photos will be iffy at a minimum. For the price of the Zi6 you can buy a fine Kodak P&S which has excellent resolution and the same video quality of the Zi6

This will explain it all:

Any current P&S camera listed on this site will provide excellent images given the photographer has the skills necessary.
