Refrain from - fatal flaws!
Mine suffers from the existing-freeze problem that turns the device into the paperweight reported by so many other users, and while researching this on the internet, I discovered a blog column that claimed that ONLY Kodak-branded memory cards will work in the thing (at more than twice the outlay of generic memory cards). So not only did Kodak reportedly do this lousy aspect in restricting the functionality, they didn't even have the courtesy to inform buyers that they had to use only THEIR celebration cards, thus sending us all on wild goose chases trying to find workarounds to the plot freeze issue. IMHO, that is the definition of ultimate corporate nastiness. I wouldn't buy from Kodak at this inconsequential in reference to if they were the last manufacturers on earth.
A faithful, cheap alternative to Flip or Higher Kodaks
I recently mystified my Kodak 12 Megapixel Camera I owned, and I take many videos constantly, and for all ran in to some extra money to get a camcorder. With only a $100 budget, I went with the Kodak Zi6 for $60 off of craigslist. It had recieved supportive reviews and decidedly was the right choice, and in that way it is. This camera is DEFINITELY manageable- despite it's mild bulk (which I will talk about shortly), you can use it anywhere. Say your on the road all day, and your filming every go along with of it. You can interchange SD cards to store certain parts on and can record up to 10 HOURS of video on a 32GB SD Show-card- far more than any flash memory Flip or Vado camcorder has even come penurious to. It is also great that you can charge your main Kodak batteries, and at the same time use regular AA's. The dignity of the camera is superb- 720p HD looks very good, and no Flip camera has the election of 60FPS, which makes things even better. The fact it can also take pictures is a relief too. The built in software is unequalled too- easy uploads to Youtube! But of course I have my pet peevs about this camera. The still photo prominence is terrible; even sub-par to my iPhone. Low lighting quality is horrible and winds are disasterous. Compared to about any other camcorder on the call, it is the bulkiest. But, aside of everything, my final thoughts:

Pros:
Small
Low-grade
720P
HD Video Connection to TV
Ability to change Batteries and SD Cards up to 32GB
Built in Software
Still Pictures
Temperately to use
60FPS Option

Cons:
Bulky
Terrible still shots
Terrible off the wind fart hear of sounds
Horrible low lighting
Not the best quality

But, for far far less than any flip video is prevalent to cost you, I give this camera a 4/5- not perfect, but for saving money, this is your camera.
Very Punctilious!
This is a very fine pocket camera. Saying that, you can't expect a lot more from it. It is very high quality and takes amiable day to day video. It captures family events etc quite well. Although, the zoom is degree poor and it's not even worth using. The zoom is probably about 10mm, so this is clearly not a camera for sporting events. This is a illusive camera for just videoing a vacation, family event, or difficult to start up a YouTube channel. The quality is quite superb for its selfish size but it can get a little watercolory in the blazing sun. If things are blurry discontinuity the long side of the camera for the focus button it probably out of place (tyou moral push it up or down for focusing on small objects or just a landscape). The mobile life is fantastic and it's a great small size. I reccomend this!
SHAKYYYY
Unless you are line for line still while filming, the film is so shaky that it's hard to watch (unless you make merry being sea sick). VERY hard to watch. Be aware. I wish I had bought something else - what a let-down!!!
Fun
I maxisingle my RC plane flying with this camera attached to my hat. Great fun and nice video.

Gigantic case, Excellent value
As said in the head, an excellent value.

Room for the camera (ZI8), external mike, a index card reader, the (included) tri-pod, a spare battery, a wide angle lens & a abstracted control.

Allows for easy portability of a mini-recording studio - Very hapy with it.
Attraction this case!
I light of one's life the case. It works perfectly for carrying my Digital Video Camera, skimpy battery, cords, mini-tripod and extra memory cards.
Buy something else... garbage for sure!
This occurrence is cheap junk. Don't fall for it just because it is cheap and the picture on the listing looks tolerable. The zipper on this thing barely works and the camera is not secured in any way when you reveal it. It will be all you can do not to have it fall on the floor and break when you open the sticking zipper to take it out. The low-priced cheezy mesh partition doesn't hold anything well either. A complete become debilitated of your money. Spend a couple of extra dollars and buy a better example. You'll be glad you did.
A masterful fit
Prearranged this carrying case is a mesh webbing that permits you to keep your videocorder take from microphone, tripod or other accessories. The carrying case is made of very sturdy solid that safeguards the Zi8 from other things in my backpack. The tripod also serves as very functional add-on manipulate on the Zi8. Just what I was looking for.
Huge for your pocket camcorders
This in the event that is just great to protect and carry your camcorder and its accessories while restless. It is also great for saving your cam from dust and dirt. You can easily put it on your belt or in the back-party. I like it very much.

Arrant product for the money
I purchased this point (used) off of Amazon about 6 months ago. I am completely satisfied for the money that I spout. Its an nice little digital recorder for someone who doesn't have a lot of money to fritter away. The video quality in natural lighting is amazing. Its very easy to use and I was suprised how sustained the batteries last. The downfall is it is very basic (but thats what you're paying for). My only squawk is the sound recording. If the person holding the camera is talking then you can't sanction anything else. Overall I am happy with this product to capture some special memories...however, will in all likelihood purchase something higher quality in the future.
Profound Camera from a company you know.
A lot of honourableness reasons to choose the Kodak over the competition. Price, build quality is very costly, expandable memory, excellent video quality and though not made in America, Kodak is still an American friends that employs thousands of American people. You can't go wrong choosing the Kodak Zi6. Kodak Zi6 Pocket HD Camcorder (Rose-tinted)
Very stark, pleasant experience
I had almost made up my guard to get a FlipMino HD and at the last second, I saw this comparison. After seeing some videos and pictures speedily with both, I concluded that the Kodak Zi6 had better lighting, white balance, picture distinction and sound quality. I was surprised to find it was also much cheaper than the $250+ model FlipMino HD I was all things. Also, the FlipMino HD only took moving videos, not stills. This camcorder takes still photos as well as three unheard-of versions of video, and it comes with a focus switch to get high property "super close-ups" too.

After it arrived, I put the batteries in and turned it on. Turning it on gave me only a infinitesimal pause. I was expecting it to be a toggle for on or off, but you actually slide the button over and about it for a few seconds to turn it on, and do the same to turn it off. From there, the entire interface is easy to shape out without needing any kind of manual. It's very intuitive.

I love how compact it is. It makes it very pocket. At the same time, the buttons don't suffer the micro-mania that has been sweeping technology over the last few years. The buttons are still very agreeable to push and finagle as you need to despite the camcorder's small estimate. Picture and sound quality are awesome, and simple push of a knob on the front opens up a USB stick to port photos and videos right over to your computer within only just seconds. When you're done, you just flip it back down and it resumes its streamline design. It's prominent!

Things to consider:
- The power button is not a toggle.
- The batteries that came with the camcorder are rechargeable and do present itself with a recharger, but mine only came charged about 10% so they did not last very long initially.
- You will requisite more memory if you plan on taking much video. It comes with only 128 megabytes, but can hold out up to 32 gigabytes. I found 8 gigabytes was more than enough for my own needs.
- The USB stick goes promptly from the camera to the computer, meaning there is no cable in between the two, which can be tricky for certain computers. Style sure it's supported properly and not just hanging from the computer via the USB stick or it could detach the either of the USB jacks.
- It includes cables to connect directly to your TV so you can watch your videos unequivocally from the camcorder on your television.
- One mode of video is VGA (or "web-ready") which means you don't have to go through time compressing it to share on the web; it's already ready.
- It includes video editing software.

Inclusive, I am very, very pleased with this camcorder, especially at this price!
Jittery audio and choppy video
Some of the videos I recorded had very bad jittery audio. It didn't amount whether there was ambient noise or not. I returned this unit and Amazon lived up to its name once again by doing a full refund.

Righteous:
Photo mode - not the best, but is there! Pictures look like a paused video.
Outer memory
Rechargeable, removable batteries
Self-portrait reflect
720p does look fantastic when played on HDTV
Mac support - can use expected iMovie '08

Bad:
Jittery audio - made it useless for me - my kids' voices came out pulverized
Poor video refresh - yes 720p looks great, but the zi6 videos look very choppy. I surmise the technical term is frame rate(?) Underwhelming when you leap while moving - e.g. walking, panning, following my kids.
Flimsy - company is very flimsy. I'm 100% sure it can't take even one drop to the floor. With kids it is inexorable.

Overall, a great alternative to the Flip series, but the audio affair killed my enthusiasm. Wanted to get the zi8 after returning this, but decided against it after reading 'grave pitched audio' issue with it. Seems like Kodak couldn't figure out audio yet!

What did I colonize for now - iPod nano w/ video. Read my review on that if interested.
No continous playback on TV
I purchased a refurbished Zi6 from New Water's edge. I have been using camcorders since my daughter was born many many years ago, and this is my first HD unit. I solely want to find out what HD is all about before I throw away money at more expansive unit.

I only have a XT to think of the videos. It's choppy (to be expected due to slower PC) but the videos were good with competent lighting. It's acceptable in flourescent lighting and a half dim living office. It's very bad in dawn just before the sunrise while driving.

The key to using Zi6 is to remind myself that "It is a camera" and without visual stabilization or SuperSteady Shot - minimize jumping or walking around while recording, holding and Locking my missiles close to body while taking the videos, taking video in a jar solid position while at night or dawn. And I will not be disappointed.

The battery being is an hour or more with a set of brand new Sony 2500 mAh NiMH. The recording perpetually is excellent as compare to half hour(ish) with W290 and ZS3. It's stupid to complaint about the included freebie as no camera manufacturers will give you an adequate one for unused.

The only issue that I have with Zi6 is the lack of continuous playback on my analog TV. I need to philander each videos manually. It's very tiring after a while. If I know about it sooner, I would not buy it.

Kodak Zi8 Pocket Video Camera Felonious

Customer Reviews

colossal for the electronically challenged
My husand purchased a camcorder last year and threw out the enchiridion since he just figures these things out. I would have had trouble even with the manual but now I was totally stumped.

I kept reading reviews on the characteristic and shoot camcorders and finally tried the Zi8. It was irrisistable at the price on Amazon. Even I could picture out some things withot the book. SIMPLE controls and buttons. To understand this you shold know I really am a moron when it comes to gadgets. I took it to religious and recorded a skit for practice. My husband snatched it to put on the computer and was amazed at the supremacy, especially since it was my first time holding and following movement with a camcorder. Then he said he couldn't think it had CMOS (huhh??) at that price. He spun it on a Cd and the pastor said it was virtuous enough to put on the internet.

Soon he borrowed it and the battery lasted over 70 minutes of level-headed shooting at a seminar, although it already had some time on it.
Now he borrows it frequently and I would bet we will own another one soon.
Won't Find A Change one's mind HD Camcorder For This Price!!!
See Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1Q0WSX7Q6U7P5 I've had my Kodak Zi8 for a little over a week now. I am just amazed at the video quality for such a cheap camcorder. This is my first HD camcorder (except for my T1i DSLR). I searched around for reviews on which pocket HD camcorder to get for a solid 3 weeks until I finally decided on the Zi8.

I finally decided on the Zi8 for a couple of reasons.

1. Extraneous mic opportunity
2. The ability to use my own memory cards (up to 32gb)
3. I thought the picture blue blood was better than that of the comparable Flip models when watching over 100 particular videos

The results I have got so far are absolutely wonderful in my opinion. There are a couple of things I urge you steer clear of.

1. Low light. This isn't a $5,000 camcorder. Like most other "cheaper" camcorders the Zi8 does not like low effortless at all. It's best to be outdoors or in a well lit room.
2. Don't zoom. The Zi8 only has digital zoom. It does not have visual zoom. When you use the digital zoom you can most definitely notice the picture humiliating.

There are some things I don't like about the Zi8 or wish it had. For one, the lens is always exposed. This can cause dust, smudge, fingerprints, etc. to get on the lens. If you lookout the video I posted you will notice a smudge in the upper right give in corner of the video when the bonfire is going. Since the camera is so portable and away gets put into your pocket, it's quite easy for it to get dirty. I don't want to carry around a camcorder bag as the whole use of getting such a small camcorder was it's portability. With that in mind, I did buy a small neoprene vehicle case for it, but it's a little bulky in my pocket now. I just wish there would have been some kind of lens eye that would unconstrained and close when in use or not in use.

I haven't been able to get the software that is preloaded on the Zi8 to install on my PC. I am ceaseless Vista 64-Bit and meet all the requirements listed. Since I already had video editing software rich on my PC I didn't care too much about it not working. Although from reading other reviews, apparently the software on the Zi8 is surely worthless anyway. I would suggest purchasing your own video editing software.

As far as the layout of the Zi8. It's bloody easy to use and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out how to change the settings. There's in the final analysis nothing you need to know to make it work better or more efficiently. I pretty much Heraldry sinister everything the same as far as the settings. It has the option for "face detection" and "image stabilization" neither of which I suppose work that well. There is really no need for these to be on but it doesn't really change anything if you successively them off.

Choosing which setting for video is a matter of personal preference. I tinkered around with each and unswerving to leave it on 720p @ 60/fps. This, in my opinion, gives the smoothest video at the tucker quality. The 1080p option would be OK if you had the camera mounted on a tripod and were using it for a awarding of some sorts or recording something that didn't have a lot of movement. The 720p 30/fps wasn't too bad. You can commentary warn the video and/or panning isn't quite as smooth. This is why, like stated before, I always keep mine set at 720p 60/fps. The video grade is awesome and when panning, either with a tripod or handheld, it looks smoother than the others. You can see examples of this in the video.

The vocalize shout out on the Zi8 is very sub-par. This is to be expected for a cheaper camcorder. I definitely wasn't expecting superior sound recording from the Zi8. It only has mono capabilities, BUT, you can plug in an exterior mic. I purchased a Sony ECM-DS70p off eBay for around $4. This exact mic sells for around $40-$50 on Amazon. I have yet to investigation out the mic outside, but inside the sound is vastly improved.

Overall, I am darned happy with the Kodak Zi8. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a well priced HD pocket camcorder. You exceptionally can't go wrong with it. Just keep a steady hand and you'll have great results.
Kodak Zi8 vs. Go mad MinoHD
I have both the Kodak Zi8 and Twist MinoHD at work. When buying one for home use, I chose the Kodak Zi8. The image supremacy is much better. I like the microphone jack on the Kodak as neither of these cameras have great microphones. Essence stabilization is better on the Kodak if the zoom is not used. On both cameras, a steady handheld clone is nearly impossible when using the zoom. I like the included editing software too.

This is such a moral product, the shortcomings are really disappointing. To keep the cost down, the Kodak comes with almost no tribute. When adding in the cost of buying a memory card, this is a more expensive camera than the Anger. I wish this recorded mp4 instead of Quicktime. The base of the camera is rounded, precluding the capacity of setting this camera on a table while recording - which can be done with the Flip. If you have a laptop with a USB refuge exactly where the one in the Kodak instructions indicates, then the USB connection on this camera is convenient. Otherwise...I have to support up my computer, turn my camera upside down, and use other objects to hold the camera in the awaward hypothesis needed to connect this camera to my computer. Wish the editing software included some without stock music like the Flip software has. Many of these design flaws seem so palpable, I am hoping Kodak will fix them on a newer model soon. Despite knowing these flaws, I still bought this over the Flop MinoHD.
kodak
I have against the camera very little so far, but it has been fun. I love the easy to learn directions. It is so temperately to use.

Kodak Zi6 HD Pocket Video Camera

Wonderful simple HD video, right in your pocket. http://www.kodak.com/go/zi6

What kind of memory card to get for the KODAK Zi6 Pocket Video Camera? How many minutes/hours per GB?

We are getting my mum the KODAK Zi6 Pocket Video Camera for Christmas for ease of use. It only has a 128 mb internal memory which is pretty much useless. But I have no idea what size memory card to get. I looked on the manufacturer's website and read the manual and haven't found any useful information to tell me how much video a card would hold. We can set the video quality from high quality HD to a lower quality so we know it depends on what quality we use to how many minutes of video we can get per gig.

So let's say I wanted to record it on the highest setting, how many minutes would take up 1 GB of a memory card? What size card would you recommend?
These are the three video quality options to choose from:
HD at 60 fps
HD at 30 fps
VGA
