My birthday is coming up and want to make funny videos with my friends that I can put on youtube. I didn't want anything fancy, but still a little better than average. This will be my first camcorder experience. Is it good for starters?
It is pretty good - good news is that it uses miniDV tape and has a mic-jack... bad news is that it does not have manual audio control. I see the drum set avatar - loud audio will overdrive the auto-mic-gain control and the sound will be muddy. Two choices - spend more on a camera with manual audio control or get a field audio recorder like those from Edirol, Zoom, M-Audio or Marantz (among others) and replace the camcorder audio with the audio form the field recorder (that does have manual audio control.
