Incomparable compact camcorder with very high quality recordingsThis is a very very agreeably camcorder. I bought it about 6 months ago (Dec 2009) from B&H for $600. Canon has since introduced new era products. If you are considering buying this now as a new unit, make sure you don't pay the initial list price.
Significant camcorder, even refurbished
I wanted HD, and I wanted Canon for their trope quality, but I didn't want to pay more than $500. The HF11 would normally be out of that range, but I got it as a plant refurb, and I'm glad I did. Works great, no missing items or problems that I can see.
Low candlelight recording was pretty good in 24P mode, though the normal modes were a bit piercing. I did find that the full HD, full quality recording mode is way too much for my computers to playback without stuttering. The bundled software is crummy (it didn't recognize the MTS file format for the 24P recordings!); don't disturbance with it--get WinFF for converting video formats, VLC or Media Player Prototype for playback.
Countless Camera; Poor software
This camcorder is just close. Lightweight and great quality. Just be prepared to shoot Grand Def videos and have 100+MB for 1-min of recording!!! It's for sure one of the best of its nature in the market. I did an extensive research and I couldn't be happier with this camcorder. Ohh penitential, yes I could be happier,...the software to edit your recordings is terrible. You will demand to invest another $100 and buy a good video editing SW.
Dreadful Camera For The Money!
I bought this video camera to take on my trips and needed something both minuscule, but with great image resolution. The Canon Vixia HF11 fits the bill. The controls are very easy to use and the interface is almost idiot trial. I use a Macbook Pro and with iMovie and the camera plugged in I have had no problems. The video is curly and clear on every quality setting and the sound is very decent. The best affair is the size. It's light and easy to throw in a bag. I plan on using it for my edibles blog [...] Please check my site soon for actual, viable footage.
Canon ViIXIA HF11
If you can find one of these, get it. A- picture quality, better, in my estimation, in low-light than the newer models, unreserved to use, small.
