ON the GO!I bought the DC 210 in original 2007 on a whim. I still use the DC 210 today! I loved the small weight; manageable for a mother's purse. It is not only convenient to carry but also simple to use. I often set the camcorder on a flat surface to record anything longer than one minute, so the video is not shakey.
I familiar the DC 210 to record my son's activities (music performances, field day, junior high school holidays, sporting events etc . . . ), finalize them, and then send the disks in the despatch to family out of state. I have used Fuji Film DVD-R, Maxwell DVD-RW, Maxwell DVD-R DS, and Sony DVD-R recordable disks without climax. The disks can be played back on a laptop or a DVD player, as long as, they are finalized, which takes less than three minutes per side.
The topmost challenge was to figure out how to convert the VOB formats. After learning to convert with PowerDirector and Silent picture Maker, I spliced many videos for family and friends with the initial astute and with added features.
Finally, the DC210 fall back is the short recording values bright and early on the disks. Most disks inserted have 30 minutes of recording convenience life per side. Although, many of the disks start with 19 minutes. So, plan on switching for events longer than twenty minutes!
Finalizing and editing
We have this camera at our profession site. It takes fairly good pictures/video. The leading complaint I have is the same as others here: Finalizing a disc is very unclear, and the format used in VR procedure is not very user friendly.
However, thanks to the interwebs, I will tell you how to do these; seeing as Canon can't.
To settle a DVD, you need to be in "Play" mode and the Camera must be PLUGGED in to an electrical store. (Very lame IMHO)
If you want to be able to use your videos, shoot in video system, not VR. Yes this limits your option to edit the video on your camera, but it makes the discs in accord and easily finalized into a format readable by your DVD player/computer.
humidity
This is a worthwhile camera but not recommended for a trip to the rain forest. The humidity seems to also gaol the camera up
35x zoom
Most vain camcorder out there
We bought this for underlying use only. Within 9 months it wouldn't finalize our discs of our new baby. We sent it back at our expense. The party replaced it's organs and returned it. Six weeks later it won't work again and the flock wants us to ship it back at our expense again to work on it some more. Again, our baby's precious moments are corrupt because it won't play on DVD without finalizing the discs. The company won't just replace the camcorder they will only fix it even though it keeps imperfection. Horrible camcorder, horrible company. Don't recommend a Canon or this particular DVD camcorder.
I Sweet IT!!
This my first ever camcorder/digital camera...it's an marvellous piece of equipment, it was easy to figure out (well, okay I mistakenly was plugging in the steed into the av port but after examing the user guide's appendix illustrating what and where each handle/joystick/etc. was...and also looking the camera over very thoroughly again; I did find the proper port for charging the camera)....that's been my only grievance....it's easy to figure out....if you'll just play with it....and skim the other ratings/reviews on this page...because people have instructed on how to finalize the mini-disc.
I enthusiastically recommend this camcorder and HP 8cm 4x 1.4GB Data mini-disc to use for your videos/still pictures.
